Let Them Eat...Halloween Cake!

With the twelve pumpkins she has to carve, the witches skirt to be made and the cupcakes to ice, Olive is thrilled to have a someone else do the blogging today, especially when it is Modern Marie! We love this modern-day Marie Antoniette's charming way of making everyday as "entertaining as possible." And how appropriate that she write today about cakes! While Olive tries to craft together a broomstick, let your taste-buds be tempted by her devilish baked delights.

I love Halloween and for the whole month of October on my blog, I make it quite obvious. I love carving pumpkins, dressing up, all the decorations, candy corn, and all the fun and freaky desserts that go along with it! Here are top 3 favorite Halloween inspired desserts that I have made:

The Spider Cake

I was inspired by the Rodarte FW08 collection. I love the vivid colors of red, black and white. Its chic and creepy. To make the spider webs, I melted chocolate, put it in a Ziploc back, snipped off the end and made spider webs onto wax paper. Before they dried, I sprinkled big clear crystals on them.

Breathe Me!

This cake was made after my spring dance concert in high school a few years ago when one of the songs was "Breathe Me" by Sia. I made this cake for the after party - because our dance to that song was VERY creepy - in an artsy kinda way. It’s disgusting yet sort of delicious looking at the same time. It could definitely attract flies. All you need to do is pour icing over cake and throw on come creepy crawler things and Oreo “dirt” and you’re good to go.

Pecan Pie Cake

For those who are too sophisticated for Halloween (you’re never too old!) and would rather just have a “fall themed” dessert, I suggest this delicious and festive cake. The recipe and instructions on how to make it can be found here.

Amazing guest post. I'm always saying that Modern Marie must open her own bakery someday - she would have people banging down the door for her confections! :)
